Additional information about Aperitif

You want a dry Martini or Aperol before the meal? To get in the mood for a comfortable meal, to quicken the appetite or to bridge the waiting time until the start of the menu, it is willingly handed an aperitif. The range of suitable drinks has been established to prepare the stomach for upcoming delights. From the beer over sparkling wines to special spirituous beverages. With the drinks, there are often offered finger foods and snacks.

There are differences between countries as regards the consumption of the mostly alcoholic drinks. In Italy, for example, it is a part of the “dolce vita” to enjoy drinks with small appetisers in the evening or at noon in comfortable bars and pubs in a pleasant community. In Spain, there are offered tapas to the aperitif.

Well-known aperitifs

Specially liked by the French is the pastis. The original pastis from Marseille is a sweet aniseed brandy which is filled up with iced water. The Pastis can be also served as a long drink by adding oranges and lemons.

Bitter-tasting aperitifs are enriched with cinchona bark and bitter orange peel. Best known surely are the Campari and Cynar. Usually, these drinks are served on the rocks, with sparkling wine or juices.

Also dessert wines are chosen to stimulate the appetite. Well-known brands like the Vabé or Dauré are enjoyed depending on the vintage between 8 and 18 degrees Celsius.

Cognac and Armagnac as liqueur wines, by contrast, are served at 6 degrees or “on the rocks”.

In Spain, the famous sherry is harvested from the white Palomino grapes.

In England the port wine has been created. We distinguish the quality of port wines according to the age. Depending on the taste, it is served at room temperature or cooled.

But also sparkling wine, champagne and dry wines has been established as aperitifs. Entirely according to your taste, the noble drops can be served purely, on ice or mixed with fruit juices.
